Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Concise answers to the most common questions when using PhotoSort, helping you organize images more efficiently.

Quick Start

How do I add a target folder?

  • Click the “+” in the right operation panel and choose any local directory to add it to the list.
  • You can add multiple folders and add/remove them anytime without affecting already organized images.

How do I move images quickly?

  • While previewing the current image, directly click a target folder in the list and the image will be moved there immediately.
  • No need to drag & drop or jump between deep directory levels.

Common Questions

How many target folders can I add?

Unlimited. It’s recommended to group by theme or project to keep the list clear and easy to scan.

Are images “moved” or “copied”?

By default they are moved (the original file is relocated). If you need to keep a copy, back it up before moving.

How are files with the same name handled?

They’re auto-renamed: a numeric suffix (e.g. _1, _2) is appended to avoid overwriting.

Which image formats are supported?

Common formats like JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, etc. Some uncommon or proprietary formats depend on system decoding support.

Is dark mode supported?

Yes. You can switch anytime in Settings.

What if moving fails?

  • Check directory permissions (read‑only or no write access will fail).
  • Ensure the file isn’t locked by another program.
  • Verify sufficient disk space.
  • If the path is too long or has unusual characters, shorten the path or choose another directory.

How do I undo a mistaken action?

If you moved or deleted something by mistake, click the “Undo” button in the right control panel to quickly restore it.

How do I reset or clean the target folder list?

Remove unused folder entries in Settings; this won’t affect images already moved.

How do I report an issue or give feedback?

Send details (system info, reproduction steps, related screenshots/logs) or suggestions to hello@photosort.app.
